Pond and Paddock will be AquaCon’s launch-pad for future facilities. The Pond and Paddock approach adds value beyond that of traditional aquaculture by bringing technology to the forefront of design and operation through AquaCon’s circular economy system, diversification of revenue streams and utilisation of renewable and wastes to minimise the company’s carbon footprint.
The planned facility is the culmination of extensive collaboration within AquaCon's highly experienced team and consulting panel. Building upon work performed in previous projects, the facility aims to showcase what is possible in a circular economy farming system.
With aquaculture as the keystone, waste inputs and renewable energy will be utilised to produce high-value terrestrial and aquatic proteins as well as crops, technologies and a range of other services and products.
By developing the facility using the team’s existing and extensive knowledge, significant value can be placed on the intellectual property in addition to production value. Novel practices with water treatment and feed composition as well as ongoing R&D initiatives will be aimed at maximising production and minimizing environmental impacts. This will also create opportunities for new product development and other value-adding activities.
Species diversification will mitigate business risk and provide for greater utilization of resources. Integration of waste products from other industries will improve the overall carbon footprint of the area and reduces the total ecological footprint of the region. The systems and technology developed and implemented in this project will be highly replicable and tailorable to suit a range of regions and scenarios.
